A drama series about the life of the Queen is the highlight of Channel 4's autumn schedules.

Five actresses including Emilia Fox, and Samantha Bond will play the role during pivotal moments of her reign so far. Cranford's Barbara Flynn is the Queen during her "annus horribilis" of 1992.

The series mixes dramatised scenes with archive footage and testimony from royal insiders in what will be a major production for the broadcaster.

Bafta winning director Patrick Forbes's documentary The Force is a three-part series following officers from Hampshire Constabulary during murder, arson and rape investigations.

Alone In The Wild sees adventurer Ed Wardle's account of how he survived in the Yukon Territory with only basic provisions.

Illusionist Derren Brown also returns with The Events as viewers are shown how to fool and control people in different episodes.

Jamie Oliver's culinary journey across America is being billed as more than just a cookery show as he "delves deep into the social issues and diverse cultures of 21st century America".

Channel 4 is also teaming up with Sainsbury's for a week of 3D programming with the special spectacles needed given away in stores. Comedy Showcase will return to give up and coming comics a platform. American imports receiving their terrestrial airing include True Blood, a vampire series from Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, and the HBO mini series Generation Kill, from the creators of The Wire.

Director Steve McQueen's critically acclaimed Hunger about Bobby Sands and the 1981 IRA hunger strikes receives its TV premiere.

Documentaries include Climate and Civilisation by Tony Robinson and Generation XXL examines the obesity epidemic affecting children.

The Big Food Fight is a new quiz hosted by Sue Perkins with resident captain Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

The shows Ten Years Younger, How To Look Good Naked, Embarrassing Bodies and The Home Show all focus on the over-sixties in a week of special programming.

Channel 4's flagship documentary series Cutting Edge returns along with peak-time current affairs programme Dispatches.

This will be the same CH4 that aired a message from that tyrant in Iran as a Christmas message. A country that executes Christian converts regularly. A tyrant who represses political dissent with murder.

CH4 looking for some finance from the public purse to save it then? Pander to the minorities and become a minority.
