Three times as many business leaders have confidence in David Cameron than Gordon Brown, according to a poll.

Shadow chancellor George Osborne can also boast the support of twice as many business chiefs than Chancellor Alistair Darling, the survey found.

But the most trusted MP on the economy was shadow business secretary and former chancellor Ken Clarke. He won the confidence of 62 per cent of business bosses, with MrCameron and Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Vince Cable getting 53 per cent and Mr Osborne 41 per cent.

Mr Brown fared far worse on 18 per cent and Mr Darling was on 19 per cent in the ComRes poll for the Independent.
