Young volunteers win back free travel

Boris Johnson today joined some of the first misbehaving teenagers earning back the right to free travel through community work.

The Mayor rolled up his sleeves with a group of youths volunteering for a London Wildlife Trust project in Dulwich to get back their Zip cards - free Oyster photocards for buses and trams.

Transport for London has withdrawn free travel from 3,864 teenagers for breaches of the behaviour code since Zip cards were introduced for 11-to-18-year-olds last year.

The "earn your travel back" scheme lets them reclaim the privilege through a day's labour on an environmental project.
