McCanns cling to hope over lost Madeleine

Robert Mendick, Chief Reporter

The parents of Madeleine McCann are "drawing strength" from the discovery of Jaycee Lee Dugard, their spokesman said today.

Kate and Gerry McCann have refused to give up the hope that their daughter will one day be found alive.

Madeleine was three when she was abducted from her parents' apartment in the Algarve in May 2007. Despite numerous alleged sightings, she has never been found.

While Mr and Mrs McCann, both doctors from Rothley in Leicestershire, believe Madeleine is alive - until presented with proof to the contrary - the case of Jaycee will give them a huge boost.

"They are drawing strength from this case," their spokesman Clarence Mitchell said today, adding: "They will never give up looking for their daughter."

The search for Madeleine has turned into the biggest manhunt ever known. When Jaycee went missing it too sparked a huge search only for her to be discovered when the case was all but forgotten 18 years later.
