Jogging tour gets fitness in your sights

A unique exercise class involving a tour of London's most famous sights could be the next big fitness craze.

City Jogging Tours is offering guided runs around the capital's landmarks, including the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

The "SightJogging" tours range from a 6km gentle jog to a faster, more difficult 12km run.

The classes, which started this month and are designed for runners of all abilities, are led by experienced instructors who act as tour guides.

There are six tours at £26 per person and for those who want a customised itinerary, prices start at £38.

Setting off from Nelson's Column, the shortest tour takes runners past the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace.

A more strenuous route, starting at the O2, takes runs through Britain's maritime history, around the National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory.

Founder Hope Sloly, a keen marathon runner, said: "This concept offers an alternative to being jammed in a bus. In addition, joggers see so much more than on a conventional walking tour."

Kirsty Jopson, a spokeswoman for running kit company Runners Need, which is involved in the scheme, said: "I think it will have widespread appeal and not just attract tourists."
