Smash-grab raiders target Louis Vuitton

Smash-and-grab raiders have struck at one of London's most expensive designer stores.

Police were called to the Louis Vuitton shop on New Bond Street in Mayfair last night after four men on two scooters smashed the windows with rocks.

The fashion store is yards from Graff Diamonds, where last month two armed men took a woman hostage and fired warning shots as they escaped with £40million of gems. It was the biggest jewellery heist in British history.

It is thought the Louis Vuitton robbers may have also used sledgehammers to try to force the shop door open just after 10.30pm.

Police said it is too early to say what was taken but added that the thieves may have been blocked by a security gate and escaped empty-handed.

No security guards were in the shop and there were no injuries reported. There have been no arrests.

The irony is, these days there is probably less risk in doing this smash-and-grab raid and fencing the loot than there is in buying and selling fake "Lewis Veeton" bags in pubs, boot sales, markets, etc.
