Many top tennis stars are known for sporting high fashion - think the Williams sisters' elaborately designed dresses or Roger Federer's blazer.

But none have collaborated with a globally renowned architect ... until now.

At the US Open Maria Sharapova is sporting a dress featuring a zig-zag styling inspired by Frank Gehry's iconic designs and earrings designed by the architect himself.

Sharapova said: "I think he is a genius and when Tiffany approached me and told me that he wanted to work on my earrings for the US Open I was completely blown away."

She visited Gehry at his studio in Los Angeles to see him at work.

While mainly known for his curving metallic buildings such as Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum, Gehry has ventured into other areas of design.

As well as a range of jewellery for Tiffany, he has designed furniture and even a bottle for a vodka brand.

Sharapova's three Grand Slams include the US Open.

Success this year would re-invigorate her career and increase her already substantial marketing potential after almost a year out with injury.

Needless to say, the earrings are available online, both through her website and Tiffany's.
