Speaker 'happy' to fight Ukip election challenge

3 Sep 2009

Commons Speaker John Bercow today said he was "more than happy" to defend his Westminster seat from a challenge by Ukip leader Nigel Farage.

Mr Bercow spoke out after Mr Farage decided to defy the convention that a Speaker is not challenged at a general election.

Ukip posted the news on its website today before an announcement tomorrow at its annual conference. Mr Bercow has been MP for Buckingham for 12 years.

David H- not so. There were a small number of UKIP party members whose behaviour was, for one reason or another, unacceptable. Intsead of making excuses and shifting them sideways, like Cameroon and McBroon have done, Farage summarily kicked them out.
He has repeatedly tried to start debate over our position in EUrope and about the corrupt practices in the EUropean parliament. His latest attempt was overshadowed by the MPs expenses scandal, which has now been swept under the carpet with no meaningful reform, thanks in large part to John Bercow.
Farage and his fellow UKIP MEPs have faced sanctions in the EUropean Parialment for using their allowances, which are paid at a fixed rate, to pay for educating the people of Britain about this corrupt, undemocratic socialist behemoth.
NuLiebour were elected on a promise to give us a referendum on the EU constitution, but they simply changed its name and we were denied any say on the matter. Cameroon is backpeddling from a Tory pledge to do the same.
Farage is right to challenge Bercow, his election would give a higher profile to the debate over the EU in which all amjor political parties and gthe left wing press, BBC included, have refused point blank to engage.
Bercow is also of the Ken Clark mould, a EUrophile anti-democrat who beleives that there should not be referenda on anything, we should simply obey the elected dictatorship that passes for democratic government in this country.

Maybe Farage v Bercow will finally open Brits' eyes to the fact that the U.K. has been reduced from country to E.U. province. Brown is desperately postponing a general election until afer the Lisbon Treaty (E.U. Constitution) comes into effect (1 January 2010, if Ireland capitulates as expected under the blackmail and threats). After 303 years a once-proud country becomes a Florida or Ohio or British Columbia. Very sad. It needs a debate. Farage v Bercow may finally open people's eyes to what has been surrendered by their governments over the last 40 years. Chamberlain looks awfully good compared to the likes of Heath, Major, Blair and Brown.

I hope Farage wins; I think we would all benefit from having a new voice in parliament and losing Bercow won't be much of a loss.
