Shot fired at Liz Jones's rural home

A writer who moved from London to an Exmoor village and labelled locals “toothless farmers” has had a shot fired through her letterbox.

Journalist Liz Jones, 50, upset villagers with her newspaper column in which she talks about her life in Brushford, Somerset.

Her “toothless farmers” comment was made in the Mail on Sunday and in her latest book The Exmoor Files.

The local community claimed Jones's writing made them appear “dirty, smelly and vicious”.

Police are now investigating yesterday's shooting which took place while Jones was out. However, a friend was in the house at the time.

A source for Jones said: “She's upset, traumatised and frightened. She's worried about her own safety, as well as the person who is in her home and her animals.”

Jones's gardener Brian Greenslade said he was “disgusted” by the crime, adding: “As far as I can tell, she only wants to do good things for Exmoor.”
