Kelly Brook to join Boris Johnson in mass bike ride

8 Sep 2009

Actress and model Kelly Brook said today she will join the Mayor of London on a mass participation bike ride round the capital.

Brook was helping Boris Johnson launch his Skyride, a large-scale cycling event taking place on Sunday, September 20.

Cyclists will enjoy traffic-free roads in the city centre and the 15 kilometre route will take riders past landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the Tower of London.

Brook said she was looking forward to joining the Mayor, alongside Olympic medallist Chris Hoy, for the ride.

"I'm going to be there, Boris is going to be there, Chris Hoy is going to be there, it's a really exciting event, it doesn't matter if you're not a professional.

"I'm not really feeling that athletic but I do ride my bike on a regular basis, I do love cycling.

"It's just a fun day out, it's for everyone of all ages and all standards of cycling."

Keen bike rider Mr Johnson said he had some tips for the more timid participants. "Have a go and remember you don't have to go too fast. I always cycle in a suit, I barely break into a sweat, I scarcely perspire I go so slowly," he said.

"The danger is not behind you, it's in front of you so be aware."

He added: "You would be absolutely crazy not to hop on your bike. Skyride is a fantastic opportunity to see parts of central London in a way you never normally can. You can use your bike without any fear of being interrupted by a car."

Hi Jonny,

I had my bike removed by the Police without warning from Trafalgar Square recently. There were no signs at all. The Police do have the power, under anti-terror legislation apparently. However they are liable for any damage, where there are no signs. It's a bit of a farce really.

Does anyone know if the signs all round westminster saying "Bikes attached to these railing will be removed" are legal? Surely it is illegal to take a bike without the owner's permission? I was thinking about getting stickers attached to these signs saying "Removing a bike without the owners consent is theft. Thieves will be prosecuted." But for all I know these railing retentives are legitimate.

I am jealous of Boris. I was never jealous of Ken.

So sweet, so demure, so sensational. No, not you Boris!

I'm sure that saddle would fetch a few quid on e-bay - Kelly's, not Boris's, obviously.
