Kidnap victim beaten to death

Justin Davenport, Crime Correspondent

A murder inquiry was launched today after a man was beaten to death after being kidnapped outside his home.

The 24-year-old was grabbed by four men in Earlham Grove, Forest Gate, yesterday morning. He was dragged into his own car - a white Audi A3 - before being driven off.

Two hours later ambulance crews were called to Flanders Road, East Ham, to find a man who had been left for dead on the pavement.

He died this morning in hospital. Police later found a burned-out Audi in Ilford.

The victim, who was Asian, was a witness in a forthcoming trial.

Police are examining any possible link between the trial and his murder.
