Phil Collins hangs up his drumsticks

10 Sep 2009

Phil Collins has revealed he will never drum again because he is suffering from a painful spine injury.

The former Genesis member cannot even hold his sticks after years of sitting in front of a drum kit.

The 58-year-old, whose hits include In the Air Tonight, said: "After playing drums for 50 years, I've had to stop. My vertebra has been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in."

But it is not the end of his music career, as Collins told fans: "Don't worry, I can still sing."

What shallow people to give nasty comments on somebody that has had to give up his life long profession due to injury. Music is a personal thing and you may like their music or not but Phil Collins is probably the most sucessful drummer ever and has played all types of music. I would like to thank him for all the hours of enjoyment he has given me from the early Genesis material to Brand x and the big band project. I wish him good health in the future.

Never mind the drums, Phil, just keep on singing. Love the voice. Hope the spine injury improves with time.

Many disparaging comments from talentless individuals here. You don't have a music and film career of almost 50 years without talent. Easy to snipe but not so easy to achieve anything yourself.

Couldn't come sooner....he can't sing and his drumming skills leave alot to be desired.

Please stay in your tax exile, Switzerland, Phil, and not hear of you again. Goodbye and good riddance!

Collins is one of the most influentual British drummers of all time. A rare talent. Persons saying his drumming skills leave a lot to be desired obviously no nothing about drumming! A sad day for drummers everywhere. Heres to a full recovery PC
