Chelsea Barracks wish list

A list of what residents want to see on the £1billion Chelsea Barracks site will be presented today to developers Qatari Diar by the Chelsea Barracks Action Group.

It will demand brick-faced Victorian buildings no taller than four storeys, streets, squares and gardens to reduce the impact of more homes and traffic, and a new park.

I wish Chelsea Barracks had remained the property of the British people, managed by the MOD instead of being flogged of for a quick cash-grab by a shopaholic Chancellor. For over a decade cross-party parliamentary committees have been saying that Britain's Armed Forces have been too radically cut - and that was before entering into new conflict zones like Iraq and Afghanistan. for its commitments Britain needs a bigger army: Chelsea Barracks should have remained as Chelsea Barracks with the Army sitting in it. But along with all the military hospitals, it got sold off by the Government which encouraged some people to get rich quick on the property market whilst others are impoverished and struggle to survive.
