Seven shot and two stabbed in weekend of violence

A weekend of violence across the capital saw seven people shot and two stabbed.

Six teenagers, all aged between 16 and 19, were hurt in a violent clash in Tottenham on Friday night. Five suffered gunshot wounds and an 18-year-old man was stabbed.

They were all taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries where five of them remain. A 16-year-old was discharged yesterday and later arrested in connection with the incident.

The violence around West Green Road broke out after a group congregated and trouble spilled into surrounding streets.

A further four men, aged between 16 and 20, were later arrested. All five of those arrested were later bailed to return to police pending further inquiries.

Shiniquar Thomas, 16, who lives nearby, said: “This is shocking — it's like a gangland shooting, something out of a film. There's never been anything like this around here before, it's normally just car crime and stuff like that. But there are a lot of gangs in the area. Generally it's safe here, but it does depend on who you know.”

Scotland Yard said officers from Operation Trident, which combats gun crime in the black community, are leading the investigation into the incident and are keeping an open mind about any motive.

In a separate incident, another man was shot in the leg after he tried to enter a rave in Kensal Road, Notting Hill.

A man in his twenties was shot and wounded outside the Fiesta Bar on Acre Lane in Brixton on Saturday. He was discharged following treatment.

In a further incident, a man in his 40s was stabbed outside the Premier Food & Wine shop on Clapham High Street. He is in hospital in a stable condition.

Poppy,Brixton,London.I sympathise with you and your intentions, but i must say that stereotypes are not formed from thin air, they do not come from no where!Maybe just maybe the Black community is being stereotyped because most, yes most of the gun and knife crime is perpetrated by members of the Black community.Maybe instead of blaming some posters here for that stereotyping, you would do better to blame and turn on the members of your own community who have made it so,maybe you should turn on the black music industry that portrays gangster culture and sells it to young black men as a valued life style!maybe you should have a good honest look inside your own community for the answers, because that's where the problem lies.50 cent and the likes are praying on the black community, bling, guns and bitches.Your being played by the man.

As an expat I cannot believe what is happening in and to my old mother country. I usd to look forward to returning to my roots every 4 years or so to visit family and friends, but I won't be coming back anymore. Besides which I cannot speak Polish,Slovakian, Hindi etc: so I would not be able to talk well with the new EU British folks.

Trident is a gigantic waste of money and should be scrapped. There should be no racist policing in the UK. If the black community don't co-operate with the regular police, then they can't complain when their communities are ravaged by gangs, drugs, and murders.
As a long-time resident of Brixton, I know what I'm talking about.

As a young black woman and a long time resident of Brixton who struggles everyday against stereotypes, I think that its disgusting that it is automatically assumed SARAHN, that any shooting that happens in London involves the BLACK COMMUNITY. This is a sterotype that BLACK COMMUNITY have to face not only from people like yourself - but also from the POLICE. People being shot has nothing to do with a lack of co-operation with Trident - PEOPLE BEING CONVICTED DOES, and conviction involves help from witnesses OF ALL ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS. YOU dont know what the hell you are talking about neither do you understand anything about what these kids go through that makes them the way that they are. But let me tell you 1 thing - statements such as the one that you have just made - are the reason why these kids dont respect their own lifes neither the lifes of others - becuase as you have demonstrated in your comments - you have no respect for theirs, or those of the black community. Drugs, gangs and gun crime dont only affect the BLACK COMMUNITY, IT AFFECTS ALL COMMUNITIES and as a long time resident of BRIXTON, I should think that you would know that. People of all ethnic backgrounds sell drugs, are in gangs and are involved in murders - It has nothing to do with race - ITS A GENERATION THAT IS LOST - partly because they have fallen prey to the self fulfilling phophecies fuelled by people with opinions such as yours.

Oh to be in New Labour Britain!

Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime.
One of the biggist lies ever told to the British
people! Worthy of Goebbels himself.

They always say; 'There's no such thing as a bad breed of dog. Just bad owners. Same applies to humans. Without fear bad dogs will roam, we can blame the police, parents and society in general, we created these people. Read every headline without controls we are breading scum. I am 6foot 4 and 18 stone fit guy and I fear for my life on the streets of ghetto london
