West Ham footballer Calum Davenport said today doctors saved his life with an emergency blood transfusion after he was stabbed in the legs last month.
The 26-year-old defender said he was "feeling positive" despite continued concerns that the attack may have ended his playing career. Davenport, who is being treated in Bedford Hospital, said he had a "long way to go" but thanked his club's doctors and the "amazing" hospital staff.
He told the West Ham website: "I would like to thank anyone who has ever donated blood as you probably saved my life." The boyfriend of Davenport's sister has been charged over the stabbing.
