Police will not investigate Katie Price celebrity rape claim
Ben Bailey18 Sep 2009
Police will not investigate claims made by model Katie Price that she was raped by a celebrity.
Surrey Police's decision not to look into the matter comes hours after she was interviewed by officers at her home.
The model did not be make any statement to police over claims she was raped by an unnamed celebrity.
Officers said no allegation of rape had been made and she would not be making a statement. But a police spokesman added that the situation could change if new information came to light.
He said: "Surrey Police treats all reports of sexual offences very seriously and investigates them thoroughly, encouraging anyone who may have been a victim to come forward and providing specialist officers to support them.
"Based on our inquiries and the lack of substantiated information - particularly around locations and dates of any allegations - we have recorded an incident, but due to its very historic nature we are dependent on Miss Price's co-operation to formally record a crime and continue any investigation.
"Should any new information come to light, it will be diligently investigated and this position may be reviewed."
A spokesman said police had visited her last night in relation to reports in the media of bogus police officers visiting her yesterday afternoon.
"We can now confirm no police officers attended her address yesterday, bogus or otherwise," he said.
Claims the 31-year-old glamour model was attacked by a "famous celebrity" first surfaced in her national magazine column and in a subsequent interview.
Price - also know as Jordan - said she would "absolutely never" name the celebrity and had no plans to make an official report to police.
But it was reported yesterday that she let the alleged attacker's name slip off air during filming of her ITV2 reality show What Katie Did Next.
Price first made the revelation after newspaper stories appeared about her boyfriend Alex Reid allegedly filming a rape scene for a forthcoming movie.
The model, who recently divorced singer Peter Andre, said reporting the matter to police is a "hard thing to do".
The attack is said to have taken place several years ago after a party in London's West End following a series of secret dates between Price and the unnamed man.
Speculation over the identity continues to grow and Price said she realised her comments would spark a guessing game.
But on the TV show The Wright Stuff, Price said she would "never, absolutely never" reveal the name of her attacker.
Price was speaking to presenter Matthew Wright, who once inadvertently named TV presenter John Leslie as a rape suspect.
Ulrika Jonsson claimed in a book she had been raped and Leslie's name later emerged in public. He denied the claim and was never charged.

Out of the 23 views I've just read, only one takes a positive view of her behaviour.
I'm with the great majority, she should either bring a rapist to justice, or if there is a whispering campaign against an innocent man, give him a chance to clear his name.
Why would she not name him?
It just doesn't stack up.

not naming and pressing charges for rape? that shows a good role model for other women doesn't it? Unless of course she made it up in a sad attempt to gain attention. Surely not...yet another reason not to like this woman - as if she needed to give us anymore

Why does the media waste time reporting this trash?

I partly agree with Eve that it would serve no purpose for Katie to name the person and report the rape- i do beleive she was assaulted due to the nature of her occupation. However, her timing of her revalation and her excuse that she felt 'it would not be picked up'because it was in her dire OK article (read by many women waiting their turn in hairdressers everywhere), does have smacks of a desparation in hogging the limelight from her ex. Therefore unfortunately (for her), she still comes accross as manipulative and desparate for fame.

According to the Mirror today, she wishes she'd never talked about it. Was this before or after reading the (mostly) unfavourable comments that people are leaving?

Let me first say that if this did happen to her then the man who did this should be brought to justice.
But I believe she is using this just for publicity and that is just disgusting!!! And it belittles all the people that this has happened to. Personally I don’t see why this descace of a person get’s all this attention and why people believe that a woman like this is a good role model? But until the news and TV stop giving her (and others like her) pointless air time real role modals that people can look up to will just be forgotten about.
She is a decrease to the human race.

It's all a very sad state of affairs. If it did happen then she's a victim of a terrible crime, the fact that we're suggesting it might not have happened reflects on Katie Price's previous behaviour in courting the press for the maximum amount of publicity she can gain. If it did happen I would hope she does it away from the eyes of the press...

Just because Katie hasn't pressed charges against anyone doesn't mean it didn't happen. The first thing that happens when something like this happens is you go into shock. And i can understand Katie not reporting it at all. It's hard to prove rape let alone when you are a model and in he public gaze. The first time this story was on papers,Katie had nothing to do with it.Someone is playing a cruel game.Anyway,Katie is better of without this two faced manipulative guy.. .

Who is this frightful woman? Are we that bored and that thick to put up with this media circus? The sooner we stop buying papers and magazines that entertain people like this, the sooner we can get back to reality and deal with what really matters in our lives.

All publicity is good publicity is it not? At times her life, like many other minor celebs (e.g. the Beckhams) seems more like Reality TV than "reality"!

So basically this story has done full circle, gained her loads of publicity and probably money. a story with no substance or basis which has featured in the headlines of some so called newspapers. it actually bemuses me what this has all been about?

What does this story do to the emotions of those who have genuine rape ordeals and are struggling to rebuild their lives? Jordan is trivialising the issue of rape for cheap publicity. If her case is genuine and she didn't want to prosecute then why mention it at all. It only triggers speculation and many innocent people will get hurt. I sincerely hope that anyone tainted by her "allegations" sues her for everything she has.

No, just blaze it across the papers and 'accidently' drop the name off camera - that should keep her in the headlines for a bit longer.

If she was indeed the victim of such an attack, she should report it properly to the police so that the culprit can face prosecution and imprisonment.
Howver, by coyly revealing snippets for the benefit of her publicity machine, her reticence suggests this whole thing is fictitious - either that or she is prepared to leave a dangerous sex offender on the loose.
Put up or shut up.
