Armed raiders leave shopworker fighting for life

A shop worker remains in a serious condition in hospital after he was shot during a robbery at a cash-and-carry in south London.

Colin Thomas, 24, was shot at point-blank range with a shotgun after he challenged a group of masked men stealing jewellery from glass cabinets in Costco in Croydon on Thursday night.

He chased the thieves, who had burst into the shop with guns and hammers on Thursday night and forced shoppers and staff to the floor, but was shot with a sawn-off shotgun as they escaped.

The robbers, who wore hoods, scarves and dark clothing, are believed to have fled on foot. Police are examining CCTV footage from the store.

Mr Thomas had been fighting for his life in hospital but police said that he is now in a serious, but stable condition.

The good news is that when these thugs are caught, our legal system will no doubt give them a soft sentence. Baroness Scotland will refuse to hear the appeal and probably determine that they need new identities and live in another country. Or, they could get community service for 6 months. Crime really pays in the U.K

Remind me which MP it was who said we should all "have a go" when faced by thugs?

The death knell of this country sounded long ago...
