Teacher at prep school 'abused boy, 7, as pupils watched TV'

A teacher at a £12,000-a-year prep school abused a seven-year-old boy during a lesson while other pupils watched Newsround in the darkened classroom, a court heard.

PE teacher Rob Somjen, 22, was standing in for an absent member of staff when he asked his victim to come and sit with him at the back while the other children watched the BBC show on the internet, it is alleged.

Somjen abused the same boy the following school year by luring him into a sports shed at the primary school before assaulting him once more, jurors heard.

The teacher, known to pupils as Mr Rob, asked the boy to help him fetch some marker cones before a game of football to get him into the hut, which was forbidden to pupils, Kingston crown court heard.

Prosecutor Ian Paton told the court the abuse came to light when the boy began jumping on his parents' bed while touching himself sexually saying "this is what Mr Rob did". The parents asked him to explain what he meant before contacting the police.

Somjen, from Chiswick, denies two charges of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

The trial continues.
