Three British bikers killed in head-on crash in Italy

Three British motorcyclists were killed and another left fighting for her life after a crash while on a touring holiday in northern Italy.

The four bikers - two men and two women - collided head-on with a lorry as they came out of a tunnel in Mezzolombardo, Trento. Police fear they were on the wrong side of the road.

Colin Morris, 63, and Wendy Pointer, 60, both of Rochester, Kent, and Michael Vercoe, 66, of West Kingsdown, Kent, were killed instantly. Faye Vercoe is in a critical condition. It was not clear what the relationship between them was.

Twelve Britons were with the group, the Motorcycle Touring Club Europe, in Italy. The four had been visiting another member, Gordon Ellis, 58, who had been injured in an accident last week. The lorry driver was not hurt.

Mrs Pointer's 35-year-old daughter, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's devastating. We have been up all night. At the moment it's all very raw."
