Workers at Royal Bank of Scotland's London headquarters were shocked when they were offered “roast aborigines” on a lunch menu at their canteen.

The menu suggested jacket potato fillings including “Roast Aborigines and Been [sic] Chilli” for £2.30.

One worker said: “I was not the only one who was surprised to see native Australians on the menu. It did not sound very tasty so I went for beef curry.”

A spokeswoman for Royal Bank of Scotland said: “It was actually roast aubergine. We have contacted the catering company to ask them to correct the spelling.”

Flintshire council restored Spotted Dick to its canteen menu today after complaints when the pudding was renamed Spotted Richard.
