Scotland Yard is to review its spending on hotels after the Standard revealed the force ran up a £1 million annual bill on accommodation.
Met Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson said: “We are reviewing our hotel accommodation policy to ensure that there is no possibility of abuse.”
The Standard revealed last week that the Met had booked 10,861 rooms across the country last year, many near Scotland Yard.
The bills included £42,000 for 300 nights in the Park Plaza in Victoria and 57 bookings of conference rooms at the De Vere Holborn Bars, costing up to £35,190 a day.
Sir Paul said the hotels were used for training, conferences and officers on around-the-clock duty.
