Former Spurs player faces driving ban

28.09.09

Premier League footballer Pascal Chimbonda will today find out if he will be banned from driving following a speeding offence.

A hearing at Northallerton Magistrates' Court will be held to sentence Chimbonda, 30, of Loughton, Essex, for driving at 91mph in a 70mph zone in his Porsche Cayenne.

The Blackburn Rovers full-back was clocked speeding on the A19 near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, in January.

Magistrates have already indicated the offence merited four penalty points on his licence - a move which would push him over the 12 points threshold for a driving ban.

Chimbonda was due to be sentenced earlier this month but the case was adjourned until today at his request.

The French international full-back did not appear in court and the adjournment was requested by his lawyers by letter.

The letter said they needed more time to question a previous conviction for having no insurance as they were still waiting for information from a French insurance company.

Chimbonda signed for Rovers from Tottenham Hotspur on a two-year deal in August.
