Penguins try to p-p-pick up votes for London Zoo

Penguins and ants at London Zoo are helping the attraction win top tourist awards.

ZSL London Zoo is up for four categories in the BT Visit London Awards 2009, which are supported by the Standard. The creatures carry signs in an online video saying: “Vote for me.”

It took only a few takes to film the army of leaf-cutter ants and the black-footed penguin colony as the animals are “naturally inquisitive for anything new”, said a spokeswoman.

The zoo is shortlisted for four of 15 categories, including Visitor Attraction of the Year, plus the Best Family Fun People's Choice Award, which is decided by Londoners and tourists.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 5 November at Westfield London, while voting for the People's Choice Awards closes on Wednesday.
