On trend and on message, the wife in fashionable floral

Laura Craik, Fashion Editor

For a speech that was all hearts and flowers, Sarah Brown's dress couldn't have been more appropriate. Nor could it have been more "on trend" if one of London's top stylists had hand-picked it from Harvey Nicks.

London Fashion Week ended less than a week ago, leaving in its wake the news floral prints are one of the biggest fashion stories for next spring. Erdem Moralioglu's show, one of the week's highlights, featured a series of printed floral dresses. Mrs Brown has already shown her fashion savviness by wearing one of his dresses to host a Downing Street reception and received positive comments. This one is of a similar ilk. The autumnal colours of the print are well-chosen for her colouring and the style is flattering. The only criticism Mrs Brown will attract is that her recent dress choices seem to have been influenced by the style of Michelle Obama. If Mrs Obama is partly responsible for Mrs Brown moving towards a more cheerful colour palette, then great. Colour suits her and so does this dress.
