Plans for an 18-storey City office block have been rejected by Boris Johnson because he said it would have a detrimental impact on views of the Tower of London.
The Mayor had been consulted on plans for a site bound by Camperdown Street and Leman Street in Aldgate.
The Mayor said he would object to the application as it does not comply with the London Plan.
Critics claim Mr Johnson has been inconsistent by allowing several other tall developments that block views to be approved.

Despite some of his London policies, I could be warming to Boris. In his rapacious development of New London, Ken Livingston allowed so much bad planning decisions. Commercial and residential high rises have risen up indiscriminately, sprouting, jam packed up and down both riverfronts to Woolwich and beyond. Now they look and have the feel of massive overcrowding. The sardine school of architecture seemed to have given Ken a lot of pleasure but has left a lot of wannabes struggling with massively overvalued apartments. Some of these new developments have become instant slums as the residents have left, unable to meet the mortgage, and the blocks look derelict and decaying.
On with the new by all means Boris, but please, not at any cost.
