First-class stamp

1st class stamp set to rise 3p

Peter Dominiczak

The price of a first-class stamp could rise by 3p next year under a plan to help rescue the Royal Mail's finances.

The cost of a second-class stamp could rise by up to 2p under the measures to raise an extra £100million.

The inflation-busting proposals were sanctioned by industry regulator Postcomm to protect Royal Mail's delivery to every UK address for the price of a stamp. First and second-class stamps cost 39p and 30p.

Postcomm said a potential 10 per cent fall in mail volumes would see Royal Mail lose cash next year despite the proposed rises, which are planned to take effect from April.

why not make the postage free just like the drink in the pubs and the petrol that you put in your cars? i am laughing out loud at posted comments. suggest keeping out of the pubs and away from drink. it is affecting your brains.

Another Scot running a major firm with no idea of what to do.
The PO are cutting more jobs in branches which will result in even longer delays to be served putting the prices up will simply result in less being posted. No doubt when Tories in power next year the PO will be sold to highest bidder.

So once again, we will pay more for an ever reducing service.

That's OK, I'll just reduce my use of Royal Mail from 12 letters per annum to 11. Mr Crozier will have to find another way to finance his essential perks.
