Gas masks, false eyes and a samurai sword - all left on public transport

A stuffed fish, samurai sword and a jar of false eyeballs are some of the items the Transport For London lost property office has collected.

Nearly 200,000 misplaced objects are handed in to the collection point in Baker Street each year.

All the objects have been left on buses, trains, the Tube or in taxis. Now celebrating its 75th birthday, the Lost Property Office has unveiled its more unusual items.

A false arm, selection of false teeth and even a kitchen sink are waiting for owners to register an inquiry, along with tens of thousands of mobile phones, cameras, bags, and umbrellas. Craig Clark customer services assistant at the lost property office, said: “We have seen all sorts handed in here: GCSE homework, a home vasectomy kit, breast implants. Some of the stuff goes back decades, like the gas masks and ration books.”

Anything not claimed after three months is sold or given to charity.
