December trial date for Pete Doherty

01.10.09

Rock singer Pete Doherty will stand trial in December charged with dangerous driving after a gig, a court heard today.

The 30-year-old Babyshambles star appeared at Gloucester Crown Court today for a plea hearing, where he arrived with a female companion and signed autographs.

Wearing a brown suit with matching hat, Doherty posed for pictures, cuddled and danced with the mystery woman, who said she had been asked not to give her name.

Inside the court room Kate Moss's former lover denied driving his Mercedes dangerously after the show at the city's Guildhall on June 11 this year. He had played a well-received set to around 300 people before allegedly driving dangerously on three roads.

His name was on the court list as "Peter Doherty", the name that appeared on his most recent album.

Judge William Hart bailed the songwriter to return to court for trial on December 21. The case is expected to last up to three days.

Doherty, who lives in a country house in Durley, near Marlborough, Wiltshire, was charged after officers spotted a car being driven erratically.

He has yet to plead to a charge of being over the legal alcohol limit while at the wheel of his Mercedes.

At an earlier hearing he admitted two drugs possession charges, and driving with no licence or insurance, all relating to the same incident.

The songwriter's manager Andrew Boyd had previously put up a £50,000 surety to be forfeited if the performer breached bail.
