Consultant accused of poisoning pregnant woman

A hospital consultant will appear at the Old Bailey today accused of poisoning a pregnant woman to make her lose her baby.

Edward Erin, 43, is accused of procuring and administering drugs to Bella Prowse to bring about a miscarriage.

The doctor, of Gratton Road, Kensington, west London, denied four charges when he appeared at Inner London Crown Court in January and was remanded on bail for trial.

Erin was charged with procuring poison to be used with intent to procure a miscarriage between January 21 and February 8 2008, administering poison to procure a miscarriage, and two charges of attempting to administer poison.

Erin, who worked for St Mary's hospital, Paddington, west London, as consultant in the chest and allergy clinic, was excluded from work after his arrest.
