Household on standard package could save £360 a year on bills under Tories

Green Deal to reduce fuel bills by £360 a year

A Tory government would cut up to £360 a year from household bills under a £2.5billion "Green Deal" to boost energy efficiency.

Shadow climate change secretary Greg Clark told the conference that trusted retailers would be allowed to join councils and charities in carrying out insulation programmes that will create 70,000 jobs while slashing greenhouse gas emissions.

A household receiving a standard package of measures could expect to save £360 a year on heating bills, with the insulation firm putting in an investment of £1,500. The firm will be repaid with a share of the savings using the regular fuel bill.

The Green Deal will create at least 3,500 apprenticeships and cover homes where energy improvements are currently difficult to finance.

The CO2 savings across the country could be 9.4million tonnes if the least efficient homes are insulated, says the Energy Saving Trust.

Mr Clark said: "Our Green Deal... will create jobs, fight fuel poverty and cut the country's carbon footprint."

I hope the Tories scrap the Warm Front quango operated by Eaga for a start. That will save billions every year.

There are 974 quangos in the UK costing £171,000,000,000 per annum to run - jobs for the boys - with Joe Public footing the bill.
