Foster parents arrested over abuse charges

A couple who went on the run with their foster daughters after being told they could not adopt them have been arrested for allegedly physically abusing them.

Jeff and Jenny Bramley of Cambridgeshire had public sympathy 11 years ago when social workers told them to hand back two sisters they had been caring for. The family went into hiding for four months, during which a moving letter was sent to the press from the parents pleading for the opportunity to bring them up.

They were arrested for abduction in early 1999 after being discovered hiding in a caravan in Ireland but the charges were later dropped and they were allowed to adopt the girls.

But today it was revealed that the couple have been arrested again after the girls, now 15 and 14, told police they were being physically abused. The girls are now in foster care and Jeff, 45, and Jenny, 46, have been bailed until the beginning of next month.
