Expanding: Jamie Oliver wants to open six Far East branches of his Italian restaurants starting in Hong Kong and Singapore

Jamie Oliver's £14m move East

Jamie Oliver is raising £14 million from investors to fund a chain of his Italian restaurants across the Far East.

The chef hopes to open six Jamie's Italian branches in Hong Kong and Singapore initially, with more to follow in Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea and Malaysia over five years.

The bold move follows the success of the launch of the Jamie's Italian brand in Britain, where there are now six outlets, including in Kingston-upon-Thames and Canary Wharf.

The 34-year-old and his partner, Asian franchising firm Tranic, are looking to raise £7.5 million by next month and a further £6.3 million by the end of next year to fund the roll-out.

Dishes in the restaurants include “turbo penne arrabiata” and “posh truffle chips”.
