Tory councillor suspended for leak

Ross Lydall
15 Oct 2009

A SENIOR Tory councillor has been suspended for four weeks after leaking confidential information to a newspaper.

Tony Arbour, a JP who sits on the London Assembly and is a former leader of Richmond, revealed the Liberal Democrat council refused to buy a playing field in 2001 for £1 but later splashed out £100,000 on it.

Richmond's standards committee said his actions could have harmed the authority financially. It suspended him for 28 days from Monday.

Mr Arbour declined to comment except to say "this was in the public domain and it was a matter of public interest".

Frank, Home Counties, England.

I could swear some filthy money grabbing tory had to resign today for lining his pockets with £1000000 worth of taxpayers money. All these profoundly corrupt tories seem to pass you by without a comment, I suggest you take off those tory blue tinted glasses and come into the real world.

What is £100,000 to the residents of Richmond? If they did not want their councilors to throw £100,000 out of the window why did they vote for them?????

More risible insight from Frank. I suppose the libdems and the "filthy and profoundly corrupt" labour party are all vindictive, but the Tories who fund their business from the tax payer a la Wilshere are good ol' boys.

Seems to me that if it were not for "leaks" we would have even less of a clue about what goes on, in our name, with our money.

Yes they are, probably worse in fact Frank, (Home Counties).
We fought them to save Lambs Squash Club in Islington,I can tell you they wear liberalism on their sleeves.

"Richmond's standards committee said his actions could have harmed the authority financially."

Ah, but it was ok for the authority to harm Richmond's citizens financially, was it? I dunno, £99,999 unnecessarily lost from Richmond's funds seems to be a lot of money to have written off. Personally, I get the impression that the 'authority' is more alarmed at the harm done to its credibility than its bank book!

Seems the Liberals are just as vindictive as those filthy and profoundly corrupt socialists.
