Police tell girlfriend of murder victim to hide from reprisals

A woman who gave evidence against her boyfriend's 15-year-old killer has been forced into hiding for fear of reprisals, her family revealed today.

Craig Brown
Victim: Craig Brown was shot five times
Banker Denica Date, 21, was left cradling Craig Brown's lifeless body after he was shot five times outside her home by two gunmen as he unloaded shopping on Christmas Eve.

Nathan Harris, now 16, was jailed for life at the Old Bailey last week. The court had heard how Harris, of White City, organised the revenge killing after seeing 20-year-old Mr Brown, whom he believed to have “dissed” a friend.

Ms Date's family said she and her five-year-old son had been forced to move out of west London on the advice of police, who fear she could be targeted by Harris's associates. Her uncle, who asked not to be named, said: “They are worried one of their [the gunmen's] family is still about. The police told her they thought it was better she did not come back.”

The feud is understood to have started after Mr Brown was involved in a fight with Khalid Elsheikh, 22, who was found guilty at the trial of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
