Relaxation therapy ‘boosts IVF success rate’

19.10.09

Women who have relaxation therapy during fertility treatment are more likely to conceive, research suggests.

A study of women having IVF found those who enrolled on a 10-week “mind and body programme” were more successful at getting pregnant. Women on the programme learned relaxation, yoga and breathing techniques.

Dr Alice Domar, of the Domar Centre for Mind Body Health in Massachusetts, said during a second attempt at IVF, 52 per cent of women in the mind/body programme became pregnant, while only 20 per cent of those in the control group did.

The findings come as the London Women's Clinic centre announced it is trialling a pioneering IVF test which trebles the chance of getting pregnant. The London Women's Clinic is recruiting 100 women for the technique.
