Eurostar cleaners set new strike date
20 Oct 2009Workers who clean Eurostar trains are to stage a fresh series of strikes in a row over jobs and pay, it was announced today.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union will walk out for 24 hours on October 23 and 25 and on November 6 and 8, following the failure of peace talks.
The cleaners, who are employed by the Carlisle Group went on strike last month but the union suspended further action so the talks could go ahead.
Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT, said: "The Eurostar cleaners' fight for pay and workplace justice has developed into an international campaign which has generated over 3,000 emails in support from 75 countries.
"The treatment of this multi-ethnic workforce is nothing short of modern-day slave labour."
