A terrorist plot to attack two members of the US government and a shopping centre has been foiled, America's top law officer announced today.

The attack is alleged to have been planned by three men who had received terrorist training overseas and had prepared themselves by watching jihadist videos.

One of the men, who is understood to be from near Boston, has now arrested and is now facing terrorism-related charges on suspicion of planning attacks inside and outside the United States, but information about the other two was not immediately available.

The detection of the plot, which is thought to have involved an attack on a shopping centre in Massachusetts was announced today by the US Attorney General. Two members of the US government are also understood to have been targeted.
