How the strike is hitting London

22 Oct 2009

Schools and councils Parents applying for a secondary school place for their children in 2010 are being are being advised to hand deliver the applications or apply online, as the deadline is tomorrow.

Borough councils are also asking residents to pay council tax online, over the phone or set up direct debits.

Residents who do not receive new or renewed parking permits should contact the council's call centre.

The car registration plate numbers will be passed to enforcement officers so that they are not issued with penalty charge notices. Parking departments will also give consideration to late payments caused by the strike.

Anyone planning to submit a new premises licence application or a review, a premises licence variation or transfer is also being asked to contact the council by email, fax or phone.

Health service Surgeries are sending out texts and emails to patients asking them to attend surgeries for the swine flu vaccine. Hospitals and other NHS organisations may use couriers where necessary to make sure important letters get through.

Some GPs will also book a patient's appointment electronically to avoid delays and text or email patients to remind them to keep their appointments.

Primary Care Trusts and hospitals are being told to phone people with appointment details and use private couriers to carry blood samples and test results.
