Half-term holidaymakers dash for the sun
22 Oct 2009As winter weather approaches, the recession will not stop thousands of people jetting off in search on sunshine this half-term, a budget airline said today.
Low-cost carrier easyJet said money worries would not stop around 750,000 holidaymakers flying from the UK for a sun-soaked break.
Top destinations for a half-term holiday, according to the airline, are the Spanish resorts of Alicante, Barcelona and Malaga.
A spokesman today said the main reason for Spain being top of people's lists was to get away from British weather.
Paul Simmons, easyJet's UK general manager, said: "More people than ever are taking advantage of a late family holiday this year, with 750,000 passengers jetting off across Europe with easyJet. "With the majority of passengers looking to hit the beach and soak up the sun, or taking a city break in Europe's cultural hotspots.
"The recession doesn't seem to have stopped people booking a break - their main objective seems to be getting away from the unreliable English weather.
