Life sentence: ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch, left, and Stefan Sylvestre

'Scarred for life but fortunate I had good care'

Katie Piper's dreams of a media career were destroyed by the acid attack in March last year.

Her ordeal began when she was beaten and raped by her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch at a London hotel. Days later, Lynch arranged for another man to throw a cup of sulphuric acid in her face as she walked along Golders Green High Street.

The corrosive liquid burned through all four layers of the skin on the 26-year-old's face and neck. She was left blind in one eye and unable to eat from the damage to her throat.

Lynch, a martial arts fanatic and steroid addict, was jailed for life at Wood Green crown court for rape and actual and grievous bodily harm. His accomplice Stefan Sylvestre also received a life sentence, for grievous bodily harm, at the same court.

Since the attack, Ms Piper has campaigned for the specialist rehabilitation she received to be standard for burns victims.

She said: "I was fortunate to have a good surgeon and together with the correct aftercare I've achieved results that exceeded even my expectations.

"Although, yes, I've been scarred for life, I am extremely happy with my new beautiful face."

I hope that Daniel and Stefan will never walk free again. What shame they must bring to their relatives.

Katie, you are a lovely girl and have a very rewarding life ahead of you I'm sure. Be proud of yourself, hold your head high and keep smiling. Very best wishes to all concerned.
