Computer error hits C-charge

Mark Prigg, Science and Technology Correspondent

Thousands of motorists were left unable to pay the congestion charge after a computer glitch.

The problem occurred as Transport for London moved its payment systems from Capita to IBM, its new supplier, yesterday.

It left motorists unable to log into their accounts online to pay the charge. But they were able to pay via the phone or by visiting shops.

A TfL spokesman said: "Customers should be assured that we are making arrangements so that no one will be penalised as a result of any problems."

However, TfL said it would still enforce the charge as customers were able to pay by other means.

@Melvyn - As if Boris or Ken would have any say in the technical implementation of the Congestion Charging system.

- James Anderson, London, UK

This is not Boris fault. The full credit goes to red ken and it was him who implemented the shambles. It was red ken who gave us more tax with no benefit for the environment. FACT.

- Joe, Swanley Kent

Melvyn, it was your beloved former mayor that signed the contract to move to a new supplier, not BJ.

- Nobby Clark, Perth, the Scottish one

Would not have happened it Ken was still Mayor as he actually did the full job of Mayor and not just the fancy bits.

Another GONG for Boris..?
