Two more held over deadly arson attack

05.11.09

Two more men were being questioned today in connection with an arson attack which killed a mother and father and left their three children orphans.

A 23-year-old was detained on Tuesday night and a 22-year-old held in the early hours of yesterday morning in Forest Gate, east London.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of murder, Lancashire Police said.

Muslim cleric Abdullah Mohammed, 41, died when flames ripped through his terrace home in London Road, Blackburn, on October 21.

His wife, Ayesha, 39, was critically injured and died in hospital a week after the attack.

Their daughter, Siddiqah, 14, remains in a stable condition at the University Hospital of Manchester, and is said to be improving, police said.

Nine-year-old son Muhammad is being looked after by extended family, having been released from hospital.

Another son, Ashraf, 18, a student at Bradford University, was away at the time of the attack.

Peter Bowden, 39, from Lytham St Annes, Lancs, and Imran Ali, 29, from Manchester, appeared in court last week charged with murder.

They were remanded in custody and the case was committed to Preston Crown Court for a further hearing on November 11.
