Rumours: DJ Chris Moyles may leave the station

DJ Moyles is still key man, says Radio 1 boss

Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt today backed DJ Chris Moyles but refused to guarantee his future.

Moyles, 35, is at the centre of rumours that he could leave his breakfast show in July amid claims that BBC bosses are lining up Vernon Kay as his replacement.

Industry figures have revealed that Moyles's breakfast show has 7.04 million listeners — a drop of almost 700,000 over three months.

But Mr Parfitt defended Radio 1's longest-serving presenter, whose £494,000-a-year contract ends in seven months. “Chris has my support all the way,” he said. “I admire his broadcasting skills and he is a key part of my team.”

But when asked if he was confident that Moyles would be at the helm of the breakfast show beyond next July, Mr Parfitt responded: “Well that's next year. I won't speculate on who or who not may be here in a year's time.”

Will never happen. Vern only has to get up once a week to do his weekend show and he's often absent for that.

Scott Mills will take over the Breakfast Show.

Have these listeners actually gone to another radio station? Perhaps the drop in numbers correlates to the rise in unemployment and people simply not getting up in time to listen to the breakfast show. In any case, I’ve actually just started listening to the Chris Moyles show in the last 3 months as it’s great entertainment during a long drive to work. And I LOVE his husky voice, unlike Vernon who is a bit shouty for my liking.

Steve Allen on LBC 97.3 is the daddy. Moyles isn't fit to wear Steves socks.

Woo, hoo, PLEASE bring Vernon to the breakfast show, he would be fabulous, plus waking up to his voice every morning would be heaven. Get rid of disgusting Moyles and bring in the delightful Mr Kay.
