High School Musical fans get their own shot at fame

All over the world, children have dreamed of appearing in High School Musical.

Now four young Londoners have been given the chance to choreograph, style and perform their own show-stopping version of a song and dance from the movie series - all in only four days.

Paris Fosuhene, 13, from Richmond, Joanne Mason, 13, of East Acton, Reece Darlington-Delaire, 12, from Romford, and Max Sprecher, 14, from Barnet, were chosen from hundreds of hopefuls for a TV series that starts tonight.

Guided by choreographer Kevin Adams, who worked on the BBC's Fame Academy series, they can be seen recreating the climax number from the first film in the franchise, We're All In This Together, with hundreds of other fans they had to audition and recruit. What happens will unfold in four programmes on the Disney Channel over the coming month.

The children, all from stage schools, are seen working on the performance but also visit the High School Musical stage show and meet the Press.

Joanne, who has appeared in adverts, said she was really excited when she was chosen to take part in the "absolutely amazing" experience: "It means a lot to me. I'm a very, very big High School Musical fan and I love all the characters. Even though it was really hard and tough I still had lots and lots of fun."

She hopes the recording will pave the way to a career in performance. "I do want to be an actor and a dancer and I want to write plays and songs and I might want to be a director," she said.

There have been three High School Musical movies, the first released on television in 2006, which made stars of actors Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. A fourth is scheduled for next year. Jonathan Boseley, Disney's vice-president for programming, said the company was trying to tailor American shows for Britain.

"High School Musical has the most passionate fans and we tracked down four of the UK's biggest devotees to pull off this unique challenge," he said.

Club High School Musical: Make It Happen is on the Disney Channel at 6pm.
