The O2 is named world's top arena

9 Nov 2009

LONDON's O2 arena has been voted the world's best arena by the music industry. The Greenwich venue, which opened in 2007, took the title from New York's Madison Square Garden, which held it for five years.

The arena, which has sold nearly 1.6million tickets this year, won the prize at the Billboard Awards, which honour music's top artists, professionals and venues.

David Campbell, chief executive and president of AEG Europe, the O2's owner, said: "The O2 has generated more than 2,500 jobs and this award is for those people."

I've been a few times to The O2, and always had an amazing time- its a great, great venue.

Sorry but having been there for several concerts I disagree. Public transport doesn't function, parking fees extortionate, no traffic management after events leading to queues of over 1 hour to exit car park and very overpriced refreshments in a sterile environment. The sound quality is not that great and facilities rather stark. Could be much better if only the owners thought about the customer...

Great venue for music but nowhere near full marks because of the lack of affordable parking spaces and poor transport links, and the high cost of food and drink. Get this right O2 and i might celebrate with you.
