Pc pleads not guilty over death of dogs

09.11.09

A DOG HANDLER pleaded not guilty today to killing two German shepherd police dogs which he left locked in his car outside his station on one of the hottest days of the year.

Pc Mark Johnson, 39, appeared before Nottingham magistrates over the deaths of Jay-Jay and Jet in June when temperatures hit 29C.

The prosecution is being brought by the RSPCA which accuses him of "unnecessarily confining them in an environment that was detrimental to their wellbeing".

He will go on trial before a district judge in February.
