Optimism about the economy is at its highest for 18 months, a poll shows.
A third of more than 1,500 adults surveyed think the country as a whole will do well over the next year, the highest proportion since April 2008.
But nearly two-thirds still think that the country will do badly over the next year.
The Populus poll, published in The Times, also showed 50% think they will do well in the next year, compared with 46% in July, while 46% think they will do badly, compared with 52% in July.
The survey also found women were more pessimistic than men, and those living in the South East of England were twice as optimistic as those in the Midlands, Wales and the South West.
Populus interviewed a random sample of 1,504 adults aged over 18 by telephone between November 6 and 8.
