Christmas lights hark back to swinging Sixties heyday

Confetti rained down on Carnaby Street last night to celebrate the switch-on of its spectacular Christmas lights.
A psychedelic Sixties theme was unveiled as the famous street was filled with revellers in Austin Powers-style outfits.
Giant inflatable pink reindeer and brightly coloured suspended Christmas trees lined the pedestrianised road as it basked in a swinging Sixties Christmas disco with go-go dancers. Carnaby Street is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and the theme is a nod to its status as a fashion hub in its heyday.
The main thoroughfare and 12 adjoining streets were filled with decorations carrying the messages of Love, Joy, Hope and Peace.
Huge crowds turned out to see the mishmash of candy pink, acid green, pillar box red, bright yellow and purple mixed with classic tunes.

Does anyone bother with Carnaby Street now? There's absolutely nothing there.Shame but yet another victim of the 'dumbing down of Britain' process.
