Police face inquiry after Heathrow death
13 Nov 2009The death of a woman who apparently committed suicide at Heathrow about three hours after being released from custody has been referred to the police watchdog.
The woman, of Chinese origin and in her thirties, is thought to have thrown herself from a bridge near the road tunnel leading in and out of Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at about 1pm yesterday. The link road was partly closed for about three hours, causing delays for motorists on the M4.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is expected to investigate the woman's contact with officers while she was suspected of immigration offences. She was in the UK legally and police are trying to trace any relatives.
