London braced for more gales

Britain was on flood alert today as forecasters predicted heavy rain and high winds.

It comes after the annual fireworks display at the end of the Lord Mayor's Show was cancelled for the first time in 20 years because of high winds. But thousands of people braved the rain to watch the procession on Saturday.

Forecasters said Londoners should expect short bursts of heavy rain today, while wind speeds will reach gale force — up to 50mph — on Wednesday and Thursday.

Nigel Bolton, from the Met Office, said: “London this week will be very unsettled and windy, but temperatures will be mild.”

More than 40 flood alerts are in place across the country with heavy rain expected in the North and West but London is expected to escape the flooding.

Sunny and warm in London at the moment.

Maybe the boffins in Bracknell should invest in a bit of seaweed or try looking out of the window, rather than waste £50m of our tax on a computer that can't predict the day of the week.
